Most non-Tesla EVs sold in Canada through 2024 use a J1772 port. From 2025+, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian and others are switching to NACS (Tesla's connector). If your car has a J1772 port — choose a J1772 charger (or use a J1772-to-Tesla adapter for Tesla). If your car has a NACS port — choose a NACS charger for the cleanest fit.

EVIQO chargers follow the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) 80% rule: a 50A breaker supports 40A continuous draw; a 60A breaker supports 48A. If your panel can't handle a 60A circuit, 40A plug-in is the right choice — and it'll still fully charge most EVs overnight. It depends on your car. As a rule of thumb: a 40A charger (9.6 kW) adds approximately 55–65 km per hour; a 48A charger (11.5 kW) adds approximately 65–80 km per hour. Cold weather and very large batteries (trucks, SUVs) will reduce that figure — this is a vehicle limitation, not the charger's.

If you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a dedicated 50A circuit, yes — the plug-in version plugs in directly and you mount it yourself. If you need the outlet installed (or want hardwired), a licensed electrician is required under the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Most provinces also require an electrical permit for new 240V circuit installation.
